Restrictions in Srinagar, Sopore and other parts of Kashmir tomorrow

Srinagar, Feb 8: Authorities have decided to impose total restrictions in Srinagar city on Sunday to thwart the proposed protest rallies, the call for which has been given by different separatist groups.   
    

All the parts of Old Srinagar city and some parts of Upper town would witness “curfew-like” situation on Sunday, the day when separatist leaders have called for strike and protests in wake of first death anniversary of Muhammad Afzal Guroo who was executed on Feb 9 in 2013 in Tihar jail in New Delhi.
    
All roads leading to Lal Chowk would remain under surveillance and the curfew-like restrictions would be put in place in areas including Lal Chowk, Maisuma, Hari Singh High Street, Safa Kadal, Nowshera, Habba Kadal, Mahraj Gunj, Maisuma, Abi Guzar, Nowhatta, Rajourikadal and areas under the jurisdiction of Khanyar police station, sources said.
   
“There will be strict restriction on assembly of people and hardly any movement will be allowed in Srinagar city,” confirmed a senior official in the district administration.
     
He said though there would not be any restriction on traffic movement and movement of people in civil line areas, nobody would be allowed to proceed towards the main city.
      
Meanwhile, a top police official told CNS they were not taking any chance. “Entire city will be sealed. No march or protests will be allowed,” he added.
    
Sources said that authorities are likely to impose undeclared curfew in Apple town Sopore and different parts of Baramulla district. “Large contingent of police and Para-military troopers will be deployed in every part of town to thwart proposed protests,” sources said. (CNS)
